The Vision
The Phoenix Quarter is close to the heart of Lewes between the areas of Pells and St Johns, Malling Brooks, and Cliffe and was at one time an active focus within this cluster of Quarters.
Due to flooding and post-war piecemeal redevelopment this area has become a backwater within the activity of the surrounding quarters. It is now occupied by an informal arrangement of low quality, inefficient light industrial buildings which are reaching the end of their economic life.
Angel Property believes there exists a real opportunity to regenerate this area, bringing fresh activity to Lewes. We envisage that the new Quarter could realise its full potential as a new high-quality, mixed-use, area close to the heart of the town.
The emerging strategy, whilst building on the strengths and character of Lewes, seeks to establish a unique sense of place and identity for the Quarter. It aims to create a new area of character for Lewes, one that is contemporary and of the 21st century but which at the same time respects and builds on the traditions and character of the town’s historic setting and townscape qualities.
